BOOK DROOL 5

Accidental good luck again- While price checking for G.Bawa book at the Museum of Sydney MOS today. This bright orange Barragan book caught my eye at the bottom of the shelves. It came down to 95$ from 175$ - Couldn't resist it, so I put them on lay-by. I can say that MOS offers a good range of books, and prices too :) you might get lucky as they put out some specials from time to time. I bought the SANAA Houses at 63$ from MOS compared to 70$, 76$ and 90$ from other places around town.

MADE BY ASYLUM

http://www.chocolateresearchfacility.com/
by the local thinktank - Asylum

New thing in town. Boutique cum cafe selling 100 flavours of chocolate.
Range from rose with rose petals, cheese, white sesame, lychee martini (voted best), pandan, lemon peel, strawberry yogurt, rose hip, darjeerling, longan, .. ... to ginger ..

Best part is that each chocolate bar has been segmented into different sizes, s - large.

Their store is done by Asylum themselves - simple, and i thought it was Aesop-ish

BOOK DROOL 4

Live Forever: Elizabeth Peyton

Some shopping done today, haven't got enough time to get SANAA Houses, but I snatched this from the MCA store, that lady is nice enough to give 20% specials before the museum close for the day :D

Nice book, some of them could be re-printed at larger or smaller for personal collections.

MARILYN MINTER

1 Two Green Flares 2008

2 Mudbath 2006

3 Pop 2007

Marilyn Minter, Terry Richardson and Juergen Teller - Hyperrealistic, high fashion and often, hardcore pornography.

What is interesting about Marilyn Minter is that, upon closer look, her photography is in fact, portraying mouth choking on baubles, bruised feet in high heeled shoes, overly heavy smudged makeup on the eye. Rewards of glamour...

LANVIN SPRING 2009

The forms are very today, yet there is that timeless elegance in them..

DEJA-VU CHAIR

Liked the whole super polished chrome finish and the very japanese form, yeah... scratch all you can! but I like that little patch of warmth detail behind the backrest of the chair - it's like a discreet garnish... hint of warm timber for those who really hate *cold-chair* - now no more complains! :)

Designed by Naoto Fukasawa - he also designed the wall mounted CD player for Muji -

DRIES VAN NOTEN

'Standard' kind of beauty and understated -

A friend of mine will occasionally surprise and please me with his good eye in ... styles. This black calf skin cap toe shoe is definitely getting a yes from me - The heels, the overall classic shape and yet very youth full looking one.

So why not?

HEAVY LOADED SUGAR PAST TIME

For a dollar and eighty cents only - you can buy sweet time :) and I'm talking RM1.80 equivalent (0.65$)

This place we used to call *chiew kah* which translates *under the tree* sells the best Klang Cendol ever / Nevertheless, the best place to dine a super icy sweet bowl of cendol. Now if you do not know what cendol is? Try it ! - or you may want to click on the link below :)

Still - I'm missing my hometown back in KL -

p.s.
In KL - *under the tree* literally means under the tree yes, you serve your food under the tree openly and table-less for this particular cendol vendor - my favourite hangouts with my younger brother -

VALENTIN CARRON

Had some time to go through some images I've collected from time to time - thought I'd post this up /

PEK 2-5NOV

Ok.. SOHO is demanding!
gave me 3 days notice before the trip. lucky enough my visa was for a year.

was in PEK all by myself earlier this month and to sum up what i did..

day1- sunday
11pm arrived PEK

day2-monday
9am soho chaowai office (ha! i got in their office just on time, and had no trouble getting the cabbie to drive me to chaowai woohoo)
915am soho beijing residence site visit (they showed me all the flaws mamamia its their fault! v poor craftmanship has proven soho cheapo-ness. oh well.. this is part of the reason mr seah is not interested to go huh!)
10.30am settled soho san li tun (pick ugly stones! sigh just make do with some not so bad looking ones. mr seah will shake his head and say 'nevermind' i think!)
12noon lunch w 5 uncles (ye nan cuisine) 3rd level chaowai
1pm ok its soho zgc's turn (pick materials. selections are not so bad. anyway zgc's colour scheme is red white black. all primary colour. easy!)
1.30pm zgc site (45min long trip to get there!) yucks the site is v ugly!
4pm more zgc and run landscape design w Genevieve
6pm they let me go. and i ran into this jap guy running soho san li tun from kkaa(kuma). and gosh all the japs in soho office is colourless. pale. no sleep. work too hard?
6.30pm im at birdnest! omg should've gone at day time. the lighting at night looks tacky.
7.30pm san li tun. uniqlo! then to the market + solo dinner. also bought GG + samantha who pirated dvds haha
10pm beijing taiyue heights apartment. sleep.

day3-tuesday
9am soho chao wai. slt for a bit.
11am they let me go?! gila
11.15am the place. the mall was literally empty.

230pm wangfujing. window shopping
330pm walked from wangfujing to tiananmen. exhausting but felt v liberated. tiananmen was exactly like 3-4 yrs ago when i was there. full of tourist from overseas and china itself. gate to gate is a long walk. i went from all black to all grey after walking. sigh.
5pm back in chaowai. more material picking
8pm peking duck dinner with the client
10pm back in the hotel. packing
